The Stalker proved to be Carrie Sharpe's swan song. In
the beginning when she wouldn't jump out of that helicopter to help save a person's life, I knew that she wasn't lifeguard
material. To be someone who saves lives, you would have to put all other
lives above your own. It was revealed right away that Carrie was not the type who could ever trust anyone. Personally,
I was more than relieved to see her go. I just couldn't warm up to the non-changing character.
A person's actions says everything about them. Especially concerning the young man
who was attracted to her. She had just met the guy when he started out trying to control her. That
was when she should told him that they were not compatible, she was not interested and walked away. She saw it,
but did not have the guts to tell him how she felt. She kept it to herself, which was a huge mistake. It worked against
her. She should have enlisted the help and support of her fellow lifeguards and the police if neccessary. They would have
given her all the backing she needed. And then the guy started to stalk her, which is not normal behavior. This
is not love. It's all about power and control.
But her fellow lifeguards knew that something was wrong and found out when the stalker tried
to kill her. They did apprehend the guy and he was arrested. They had gone all out for her. Something that people who
love you do. She was given the support she needed and could have stayed on and gone to a therapist. But she immediately chose
to quit and go home. This left the door open for Zack to take her spot. He didn't want to make The Team
this way, but Sean offered it to him. Zack actually tried to talk her out of leaving, but her mind was made up. For
the first time, Zack displayed deep respect for a woman.
Two young, good looking spear fishermen, Ronnie and Eric got into trouble when Eric accidentally
shot while Ronnie was in front of him. Ronnie's hand was pinned to the coral reef. Meanwhile, Sam had come back into Leigh's
life. He had been sending her post cards and calling her. Carrie thought that Leigh was crazy for not going for him.
Suddenly, Sam showed up behind them. He wanted Leigh to date him again. Their reunion was interrupted by Eric's call
for help. The trio immediately sprung into action. Eric has now gotten caught in the fishing line and is also in trouble.
Using their best efforts and trainingt, the trio was able to save Eric and Ronnie. Ronnie was taken to the hospital.
Eric was very grateful to both Carrie and Leigh, but he seemed to take a special interest
in Carrie. Although Carrie didn't really want to, she let him talk her into going out on a date. Carrie didn't really
trust or open up to him, but she wanted to give him a chance. Leigh and Carrie were talking and Eric showed up. She didn't
really plan on spending the morning with him. But he had breakfast set up for the two ofthem on the beach. She was shocked
when she saw the set up. Leigh on the other hand was impressed.
Things began to get a little more compicated as she wanted to break the relationship off. He
got friendly with Zack and got things out of him that he never should have known for someone who she had just known for such
a short time. Zack should have known better. Questions that seem too personal should not be answered. He should have cleared
things with Carrie first. He should have found out how things were coming along and if she wanted to pursue a relationship
with the guy first. But no, Zack didn't think at all. He told this guy everything. This is one way that stalkers get their
information. They use people who are close to the victim to get it.
Carrie didn't like how he seemed to know things about her. He knew about her past. And some things
that he couldn't have known about unless someone had told him. One of those facts was her liking for soy milk. Over
the next few days, this feeling becomes more and more bothersome. He was always showing up. Didn't this guy have a job?
When the phone rang, she did not answer it. She knew that it was him. He was the only person
who called constantly to see if she was home. Or who wanted to know where she was at all times. Her every move. He wanted
control and power over her. Leigh questioned this, but she told her that everything was fine. She did not even confide in Leigh
to tell her what was going on. This proved to be a mistake.
Carrie was walking home with Zack. I am surprised that she didn't trust Zack enough to tell him
about Eric. She was sharing how different being a trainer was from being a trainee. After they reached Carrie's quarters,
Zack bidded her farewell. Eric emerges from the shadows. He had been waiting for her. He told Carrie that he
was the guy who was going to change her life. She realized that he had gotten information out of her friends. This is how
he knew so much about her. He knew all about her.
Carrie wasn't herself. There was an uneasiness about her. Sean began to sense that something
was wrong. He approached her and offered to listen if she had any problems. Still, although intimidated by Eric, she
kept everything to herself.
The next day, when Carrie didn't show up for work, Sean, Jason and Zack got worried. It
wasn't like her not to show without any word. They headed for her apartment. Eric had broken into her apartment again. He
was crazed with controlling her. If he couldn't have her, nobody could. He lunged at her. She tried to avoid him.
In the process, she fell, hitting her head on the table. Eric realized that he would have to kill now. He turned on the
gas. When the trio arrived at Carrie's apartment, Sean looked into the window when she did not answer. He saw the contition
of the apartment and Carrie on the floor. Eric tried to stop them by lunging at them. There was a struggle. Eric managed
to escape out the front door. They ran after him. After getting Carrie out of the apartment, Zack grabbed a bat to help the
others pursue Eric. Eric was caught. He was handed over to the police.
Leigh's situation with Sam took a different direction. Sean for the first time realized that
he was jealous of Sam. But Sean wasn't willing to commit to Leigh, and had to back off. Leigh didn't understand his change
toward Sam. Leigh began to have doubts about Sam again. She knew that he was hiding something from her. He had cancelled a
date because he was still on Molokai. Yet she saw Sam at a hotel. Later, she eyed men handing him a package. Realizing
that he was still keeping things from her, she confronted him. He confessed that he was a special undercover division
of the Navy. The two men led Leigh to their car and confirmed what Sam had told her. Sam told Leigh that he
was really in love with her and wanted to commit. She was satisfied with his answers and gave him another chance at a longer
term relationship.
Because of what happened, Carrie decided she could longer be a lifeguard. She no longer felt
safe saving people and didn't have the passion for it any more. Sean was sorry to see her go, but he was reasonable about
the matter. He realized that if she was not going to be committed to lifeguarding, she did not belong on The Team.
Zack was approached by Sean and explained this to him. There was a vacant spot opened. It was offered to him. Although Zack
did not want to make The Team on a default, he accepted it. It was what he had always wanted. When he walked Carrie
to the bus that would carry her to the airport, he tried to get her to stay. She caressed his cheek and realized too late
that Zack was for her. She had to move on. Zack could not pursuade her to change her mind. He had to understand that the situation
scared her. They said goodbye before the bus arrived and then she boarded.
The episode had some good moments, but the overall story was fair. I gave it 2 rescue cans simply
because I thought that the plots could have been stronger.
My Score: 2 Rescue Cans
