This Week's Quote:  "She may not be much with a mop, but she is the best prospect for a lifeguard that I have ever seen."
-Alex Ryker (Mitzi Kapture) referring to Jessie (Brooke Burns) to Mitch as whom the Phantom Lifeguard was.

Ratings:
5 rescue Cans/Exceptional (Super Waves!)
4 Rescue Cans/Excellent
3 Rescue Cans/Good
2 Rescue Cans/Fair
1 Rescue Can/Poor (A Total Wipeout!)
The writers finally gave us an episode that was worth watchin in The Natural. The humorous episode was split with two plots. The first was about a mysterious person who just happened to rescue victims and would disappear before the authorities arrived. Sort of a reminder of Nevermore/7th season. Alex had hired a new maintenance staff person named Jessie Owens. You'd have to wonder why the legendary Jessie Owens' name was used here. As he played an important part of history at the Munich Summer Olympic Games at Germany, making communist dictator Adolph Hitler look extremely foolish. He was angered that his own athletes could not overtake "someone like" Jessie Owens. Mr. Owens came out of that tough Olympics with four gold medal in track and field. I could really get into this subject, but that is another web page.

Jessie (Brooke Burns) fumbles everything up on the job and is eventually fired. The blonde Brooke is a gorgeous actress, but her acting skills needs quite a bit of polishing. She looks a bit like the actresses that were fired with her appearance. She giggles a lot and it is a bit irritating. She needs to be a bit more flexible in knowing when to turn it on and when to turn it off. She is a female remake of Guido (Buzz Belmondo). Guido first came to mind when Jessie was introduced. And why not? He had business cards too! he was the maintenance manager to BW during his stint on the show! But trying to fit the Jessie character into the mold of Guido is a terrible mistake. It doesn't work. Buzz's acting and comic skills were much stronger.

Jessie's having stunt footage on Baywatch's soil isn't interesting at all and it should be scrapped. It would have been better if the original background for her would have been kept. The waitressing idea was better. A bumbling waitress...hmmm...I like that idea a lot.

Jessie's interest in J.D. sets them up as a mismatched couple. Jessie giggles a lot, which is the trait of a young girl. Women tend to giggle a lot less as they get older. J.D. was a serious 28 year-old character in the 8th season, but for some reason the writers removed that old personality from the now 29 year-old. He seems more like a human question mark this season. He wears a clueless expression more times than not. This makes you wonder why the writers haven't scribbled in MGM's The Wizzard of Oz song If I Only Had a Brain for him to sing. It's too bad that the scarecrow's a lot smarter. I think that I have made my point here because he's in deperate need of his smarts from last season. He is just there for showing off his abs this season. He is very weak in the acting department and giving him non-challenging scripts will not help him grow any stronger as an actor. Hopefully, Michael will start getting some movie offers to help him along in this department.

And Mitch's playing favoritism in giving someone a pass into Rookie School is just plain too much! Even Hobie (Jeremy Jackson) couldn't go straight to Rookie School...and he went throught he whole junior program! Even though he was the bosses son, he still had to prove himself and Jessie should have done that as well. Many of the qualified applicants that compete for a spot have the physical skills too, but it takes a lot more than that to be a lifeguard. Mitch himself knows a lot better than that.

The Alex plot was the strongest here and it was enough to stand on its own. Mitzi handles comedy extremely well. She and Jeff Altman, who portrayed Ed Stymes had great chemistry together on screen! He supported Mitzi well. I was truly impresed here! Unfortunately, there is still no chemistry registering between David haselhoff and Mitzi Kapture. As I mentioned before, very few actors can actually pair well with David and make him as well as themselves look great on screen. The three left with great chemistry to support David are all recurring characters. the writers should come out of their dream world and realize they can't force a great shining duo from a mold. Either it's there or it isn't. And it just isn't there! There are other men in the cast that she can date.

It was nice to see Sheryl Whalen (Ingrid Walters) again from last season as well as another recurring character named Bridget (Marci Brickhouse).

A surfer gets knocked down by a wave, faced down in the water. Someone sees this and runs out to rescue him. The mysterious person gets him to shore and gives him CPR. The surfer regains consciousness just as a lifeguard truck makes its way toward them. the rescuer flees. By the time J.D. gets to the victim, the rescuer had already fled from sight. J.D. gets out of the truck and runs toward the victim.

The surfer asked J.D what happened and how he got there. With a confused expression on his face, J.D. told the surfer that he was about to ask him the same thing. J.D. gave the beach a combing over with his eyes in hopes of actually seeing someone while the victim coughed his head off. J.D.'s first concern should have been the victim and making sure that he was O.K. Finding no one in sight, he helped the coughing victim up to the truck. Duhhhhhh...hmmm...those If I Only Had a Brain thoughts keep coming to mind.

I could while away the hours
conferrin' with the flowers
consultin' with the rain...

Later talking to Cody, Bridget and Sheryl, J.D. had to admit that he just didn't get it. The others were asking questions. Cody asked that the victim was already laying on the sand when J.D. got there. Bridget added that "no one else was around?" J.D. assured them that no one was. When he was asked if the surfer could have gotten out of the water by himself, J.D. told them no. That he was barely conscious and didn't know what happened.

Sheryl figured that it was just another surfer. J.D. questioned her reasoning. He asked her why he would split. Cody told him it had to be wave rage. He probably knocked the guy out and didn't want to be around when he woke up.

Mitch appeared, "All right, roll call. Listen up." He said. "Everybody in the lounge. We got a big day ahead of us. Big swell...El Nino's at it again!" Alex walked up to Mitch, interrupting him. She wanted to talk to him and the matter was very important. She told him that she realized that she was hired at baywatch as a consultant. But she didn't take the job so that she could be chained at her desk all day. Mitch asked her about her point. her point being she said was when was she going to get the towel? Or any other meaningful assignment for that matter. her example was that she should ride in the Call Car with Bridget. Mitch told Alex that Bridget was a certified Paramedic while fixing himself a cup of coffie. Alex told him that she was a certified Paramedic as well.
"Oh, yeah, right. I know..." said Mitch.
"You Know Mitch, you are not being fair. you want me to prove myself, but you are not giving me a chance." She said.
Mitch ignored her complaints and asked, "Coffee?"

He went toward the group telling them all to listen for the tower assignments. Alex didn't look too pleased. She interrupted Mitch so that she could get a word in edgewise. Alex told them that before they got into the tower assignments, she would like to introduce them to someone. "As you know, when I came to Baywatch, I told you that you could expect some changes around here, right? Now I know that there are a few of you that derive great pleasure from mopping the floors, cleaning the showers and washing your towel and your swimsuits." She started out.

Then she introduced them to a young girl with a huge smile. Alex stated that the girl was the new manintence manager, Jessica Owens. She greeted them and Jessica giggled with that big grin of hers.

With that done, Alex told the staff that if they had any other ideas or suggestions, her door was always open. Mitch threw his clipboard to J.D. to tell him pass the rest their tower assignments while he led Alex to the side and questioned about her finding the funds in the budget for a maintenance manager. Alex just told him that it was one of the many things that she was inclined to do. She left him aggravated.

Mitch should have handed the clipboard to Cody. The writers made him a lot smarter than J.D. this year. I can just see J.D. reading off the tower assignments. He'd continue singing his song.

And my head I'd be scratchin'
while my thoughts were busy hatchin'
if I only had a brain
I's unravel any riddle
for any individ'le
in trouble or in pain...

Later outside we find Ed Stymes, a noted past pest to Mitch and Baywatch opening his medical case. He took a handful of thermometers out and stood up. Passing them out to the lifeguards surrounding him, he began his sales pitch "Ed Stymes is my name, medical supplies is my game. I have complementary thermometers for all of you." He went on telling the BW crowd that his e-mail address was on the back. Ed stopped in front of Bridget. "I thought you and me could log on together some night, sweetheart." He handed her a thermometer. She pushed it into his mouth and told him that he needed the thermometer because he was obviously out of his mind with fever.

Ed went on rambling about how his medical supplies were state of the art. He wanted to do a demonstration and told Bridget that he needed her let for it, if it was O.K. He took it without waiting for a response from her. She looked angered.
What a lot of nerve this guy has...just taking her leg in his hands without her permission!  "This leg is...ummm...hmmm...hmmm...gorgeous, but for the sake of this demonstration, is broken. You with me?"
"Your hands," she warned. "Take them off my leg or they're broken." He then released her leg immediately, holding up his hands.

Mitch noticed him while making his way down the stairs. "Ed?" He couldn't believe his eyes! Ed seemed very happy to see Mitch. He asked him how everything was. But Mitch was not happy to see him. Mitch reminded Ed-he told him that he never wanted to see his face around there again. Ed told Mitch not to let a little personality difference come between them and business. He was going to make BW the best equipped emergency medical unit on the beach. Mitch told Ed that they already were. Ed continued telling him that their stuff is yesterday's news. His stuff was the wave of the future. And it could all be theirs. "Yeah, right," said Mitch. "In exchange for what?" Ed told Mitch that he needed to field test some of the equipment on the Call Car. Mitch told him no. Ed told him that there were no strings or obligations. "No way." Mitch stood firm.

Just then, Alex leaned over the railing and called Mitch. She needed him to sign some paperwork before he took off. Ed shivered and was enchanted with the lovely new addition to BW. He asked Mitch who the new babe was. Mitch started to tell him that he didn't want to mess with her, but stopped before "her" came out. He stated, "on second thought," he said "that it might present an interesting opportunity."

Soon after Alex changed into her training suit, she and Mitch headed toward the Call Car...and Ed. She couldn't believe it! She asked him that now he wanted her to go out in the Call Car? She had no idea that Mitch was planning to get even with her for giving him a hard time. Mitch just told her "yep." Alex asked Mitch why the sudden change of heart? Mitch told her that he realized that keeping her cooped up at Headquarters was a tremendous waste of her talents. Alex told him that they finally agree on something and that was great. Mitch responded with, "We do!" He then introduced the waiting, posing salesman. "Alex Ryker...Ed Stymes."

Jessie began work squeezing out a rag and was soon washing windows. A bit later Cody and J.D. passed by. She greeted them.
"Hey Jessica," J.D. said.
"You can call me Jessie," she insisted.
"Jessie Owens?" Asked Cody. "Any relation to the original?"
Jessie just explained that her dad was a track and field nut. "Jessie Owens was his hero!"
Cody admitted that he was a hero of his too! "His four Olympic gold medal put him at the top." He introduced himself, shaking her hand. J.D. did the same extending his. He welcomed her to BW. They both kept eyeing each other with great interest. He barely gave the girl enough time to say her line before cutting in again.

This scene just makes me want to sing a bit more...
With the thoughts you'll be thinkin'
you could be another Lincoln
if you only had a brain

Oh, I could tell you why
the ocean's near the shore.
I could think of things
I never thunk before
and then I'd sit and think some more...

I just couldn't resist doint that! I just know Michael Bergin fans will let me have it after thais. I am not picking on Michael. It's his character I'm after.

"Thanks," said Jessie. Cody asked her how a girl like her became a..
She finished for him, "janitor?" She told him that she was starting her own business. She took out her business card and handed it to him. Just in case they needed anyone to clean their apartment or whatever. She was always looking for new clients. With that, she picked up the bucket of dirty soap water and took it ovre to the ledge. She proceded to pour the water over it before Cody could warn her. It was too late! The water had soaked Sheryl and Bridget who had been standing below. A ten year-old would know better than to pur water over any type of railing! If you are going to dispose of water, do it the right way. He looked over the railing and told her that there might be someone down there. She said that she was so sorry. She then grimaced concerning the mishap.

With Mitch at the wheel, he, Ed and Alex made their way down the beach in the Call Car. Ed was sandwiched between Mitch and Alex. Ed feigned yawning and placed his arm around Alex. She didn't look too pleased. She looked at Ed's hand and asked him did he mind. Ed apologized and had to remove it. Mitch gave them a quick glance and smiled with satisfaction. Ed then noticed that she wasn't wearing a wedding ring and asked if she was flying solo. She admitted that she was single. "What a waste of a beautiful woman." He stated, thinking that he was going to get his hands on her. "I'm single too, ya know. Hard to believe isn't it?" He was really snuggled under her. You'd think that they were glued together or something. "No," she said. "Not really." She asked him if he would move over a little. He inched over reluctantly.

She seemed very upset when Mitch told Alex that she and Ed had a lot in common. She asked him like what? Ed went into his reasons...both being romantically untangled, both were hands on kind of people, and both have guy's names. Alex then realized, "You set me up!" Mitch denied it stating that all he knew is that she was the one that wanted to ride in the Call Car.

Ed started to make himsel out of a pest again. He picked up the Call Car's radio and announced to Headquarters that they were coming in because they were low on fuel. Alex grabbed it telling Headquarters to cancel that. Then she looked at Ed and told him that the messages goes out everyone. He apologized. He then started playing around with the switches, asking what they were for. Alex turned them off. She told Ed to keep his hands in his pockets. He agreed that he would, but she discovered that he had his hands in hers. She took them out and told him to keep his hand there and don't move. He said that he would. "Thank you," she said. Alex was really steaming inside, and who could blame her?

We now come to another scene with someone ready to dive. It is Jessie. A lifeguard truck heads down the beach. J.D. is driving. They are talking about going to Vegas  for the weekend. J.D. told Cody that he would let him know agter he talked to Mitch. Cody told him to see if Mitch wanted to go. Cody told J.D. to stop. He was observing the pier and stated that they had a jumper. J.D. gets out his binoculars to get a better look. "It's Jessie! What in the hell is she doing up there?" Cody picked up the radio and announced over the system for her to back away from the edge. When she does not heed the warning, they had no choice then but to run out to the site. They ran while scrreaming for her not to jump. She makes the dive anyway. When she resurfaces, she lools up and asks a man who was filming her how the dive looked. Cody and J.D. came to a complete stop, a bit confused. "Got it!" Her cameraman yelled with his thumb up. She was happy about that and returned the thumbs up sign.

When she got out of the water, she was surprised to see the guys there. She asked them what they were doing out there. Cody told her that they were about to adk her the same question. Jessie explained that she was putting her reel together. She was training to be a stuntwoman. She gave them that huge grin of hers. It seemed pasted on. And she never lost it through the whole scene. J.D. exclaimed, "Thant's cool!" Duhhhh! This guy just forgot that he was there to enforce the roles, not encourage her to keep breaking the law. Duhhhh!

I would not be just a nothin'
my head all full of stuffin'
my heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry
life would be a ding-a-derry
if I only had a brain.

Cody had a much better perspective. He told her that it was illegal to jump off the pier. She asked if they were going to tell on her. She looked from Cody to J.D. J.D. told her that they would let her go this time. She told them that she to get back to Headquarters. Her lunch break was almost over. Jessie thanked them again before starting on her way. They both looked after her and then at each other before Cody whistled.

I couldn't understand why Cody and J.D. were working together. Cody was assigned to ZUMA for the day. It looks like the same day because the Call Car trio is shown during the same course of time. And speaking of the Call Car. it answered a call. A victim with a possible broken arm. Mitch started to treat it while Ed got out his case of supplies. Bridget was on of the attending lifeguards. Ed said, "Hi Sweetcakes!" Bridget asked Mitch what he was doing here and Mitch told her not to adk. Ed wanted Mitch to try his new triagle bandage. Mitch told Ed that they were doing just fine. After insisting that he should give his equipment a try, Mitch just told Ed no.

Ed told Mitch that he told him that he could field test his emery board. "Oh for God sake! If you want to try it out on somebody, try it on Alex." Said Mitch. Alex was nearby and heard what Mitch had said. "Excuse me?" She said. "I have no desire to be his guinea pig." "Well, why not?" Mitch asked. "You said you wanted to be a part of the team, didn't you?" She let out a sigh and proceded to let Ed test it out on her. Ed tried to get it on her, but didn't know what he was doing. She looked more like she was taped up. Mitch looked on smiling awith satisfaction.
"She asked, "Is this who you buy all your medical supplied from?" Ed gave Mitch the "look." Ed kept wrapping the supports around her. the other lifeguards took the victim to the hospital for an x-ray. Alex asked Ed if he had any idea what he was doing. After Ed finished, he asked what they thought. Alex told him that she thought that he was a complete moron.

She is correct on that account! This guy is one heck of a skirt chaser! you'd have to wonder why he keeps going after women that want nothing to do with him! Mitch seemed more interested in what Ed was doing to Alex than in tending to the victim. The victim is always first! This seems to go on a lot so far this season.

The lifeguards seem to be more interested in their own entertainment or personal affairs than in watching the beach or water. The writers should be able to do MUCH BETTER than this! Oh, for the old days when the lifeguards were busier running out to the water to rescue victims! And we got to see it from our view, not from the victims' view all of the time. The actors HAD to be able to swim very well then.

Meanwhile, at Headquarters, Jessie is mopping the floor. She saw Bridget and Sheryl as they came in going toward their lockers. She asked them how their day went. They told her "exhausting." They both seemed a bit cold toward her. Jessie told the girls that she restocked the towels and put some new soap in the shower becaus the old ones were kind of yucky. they thanked her. She sensed their coldness and adked if they were still mad over the bucket thing. They told her no.

Cody walked around the corner and fell on the wet, slippery floor. She tried to warn him, but it was too late. he was already down. She ran over to help him up. She asked Cody if he was O.K. Sheryl peeks outside of the locker room and asks Jessie, "Have you seen our black bathing suits?" Jessie told her that she had put them in the dryer, they should be done about now. Her attention returned to Cody. She apolgized again and asked if he was sure that he was O.K. Cody kept telling her that he was fine. He assured her that he was and stressed that it would have been a good idea to have the WET FLOOR caution signs down.

Later, Alex and Mitch get out of the Call Car after pulling up in the Headquarters Parking lot. "If Ed Stymes even shows his face around again, I'm going to get a restraining order. I mean it!" Alex warned.
"I saw sparks between you two." Said Mitch.
"Oh, you know what? that's not even funny." She told him.
"Yes, it is," said Mitch. "It was very funny."
Sheryl and Bridget saw the two and approached them. "Guys, we really need to talk about our new manintenance manager." Said Bridget. "Why?" Asked Alex. "What happened." Without a word, they both held up a tiny BW jacket and a tiny black training swimsuit. "Oh," Mitch said. "Great!"

I must say that this is totally IMPOSSIBLE! We all know that swimwear can stretch out of shape if HOT water is used, but not shrink! Swimsuits are made with the purpose of water and salt water in mind. As for the jacket, I would assume that since the guards get them wet on the boats, by the ocean, over wet skin, wet swimwear and for the simple fact that they can be washed, but cannot shrink.

The next morning opened with a woman (Teri Austin) and her two young children relaxing on the jetty. The little girl was fishing while the boy ran acoss the rocks chasing birds. "Jason, come back here!" She yelled. She told him no running. He wouldn't heed her warnings, so she went after him. The woman turned toward her daughter Beth and warned her not to get too close to the edge. She continued after Jason, yelling for him to come back. By the time she got to him, a huge set of waves came in and knocked Beth (Courtney Wilk) into the ocean. She cried out to her mother for help. Jason was told to stay where he was so that his mother could help Beth.

Jessie just happened to jog by the event and ran along the beach uptil she got into the water to save the girl. She swam between the roughness of the waves and rocks. Jessie finally made it to shore with the little girl. Once safe, mother and daughter embraced. Mom noted that there were bleeding cuts on her daughter's arms. She asked Beth how she got to shore. "The girl saved me!" Beth cried. "What girl?" Asked her mother. But when they turned, Jessie was gone. She was nowhere to be seen. Beth wondered where she went as her mother held her close.

Mitch and Alex walked down the stairs. "Late last night?" Asked Mitch.
"I got to bed last night by ten, but just didn't get much sleep." She said.
"Really?" Asked Mitch.
"Yeah, I just having nightmares about Ed Stymes." Said Alex. She went on to say that she never met such an obnoxious, sleazy leach in her entire life. "Thank God I don't have him..." she stopped in mid-sentence. They had reached the Call Car to find Ed waiting there for them. "Hi Lamb Chop, ready to rock and roll?" Ed asked with the Call car's radio in hand. "Ohhh man!" She said in disappointment.
"Well, he didn;t get a chance to field test all of his products." Mitch explained. Ed extended an arm, offering his hand. "Come to papa Sweet Cheeks," he said. They were soon rollin down the beach. they say the mother and her two children running toward them. Alex stopped and Mitch quickly got out. Alex got out and told Ed not to move. Mitch asked what happened and the woman explained that they were on the Jetty. her daughter was fishing and her son was chasing after the birds...Alex asked Beth if she was O.K. the girl told her that she was fine, but just cold. Alex observed the scratches on her arm and reasoned that she must have gotten them on the rocks. Mitch asked her if she swam in all by herself. Her mother answered for her, telling Mitch that Beth said that a girl rescued her, but when she looked around, no one was there. When the girl stated that it could have been a mermaid, Mitch said that mybe it was J.D.'s phantom lifeguard. Alex got the girl to the truck and treated her wounds. Mitch led the little boy to the Call Car. "Come in, big guy." He said. "Come on."

At Headquarters, Jessie wheeled her cart into the locker room. She looked away when she saw someone in the shower. "Ohhh, uhh," then she turned around and watched J.D. as he showered. She then smiled. J.D. stopped and said, "Come here." Jessie moved forward and into the shower with him. They started kissing. "Jessie! Jessie! Jessie!" J.D. called. She then snapped out of her fantasy. "Oh!" she said. "I didn't know that you...you were...I mean I didn't know..." Jessie tried to explain while tripping over her words. J.D. told her that it was a co-ed shower. They had to shower with their suits on, or else no one would ever get to the beach. After grabbing a towel to dry himself off, he asked what was happening with her stunt reel. Jessie told him that she sent it to Bill Ness, one of the biggest stunt co-ordinators in Hollywood. If she got in with him, she was all set.

Sheryl was at her tower watching her stretch of the beach. She looked trough her binoculars to notice a man who was jogging keel over, grabbing his left wrist. He fell to his knees on the sand. She call the Call Car for help. She explained the situation to Mitch and they were going to respond and that it was a Code R. Sheryl grabbed her can and hurried out to the man. The Call Car was soon there. Mitch quickly geot out and asked Sheryl if the victim was O.K.
"Yeah," the man answered. "I'm all right. I was telling the young lady not to worry." Then Sheryl continued. "It was a cramp in his arm, not a heart attack." The man then assured them that he was as strong as an ox and that he worked out five times a week. Ed had gone to the Call Car to ge a defibrillator. He ran out with the handles out toward the victim. Mitch stood and put his hands out trying to warn him that the man was O.K. Ed didn't hear Mitch. "Clear!" He said. they were place against the palms of Mitch's hands. After warning Ed with a series of no's with the electric shock going through his body, Mitch fell to the dan. Alex ran over to aid Mitch. Ed then realized that he had really made a HUGE error.

Alex realized that Mitch was still breathing with relief. The jogger asked Ed why he did that. "Because he's an idiot," Alex answered for Ed. Her attention then returned to Mitch. "Come on Mitch!" She then watched as Ed opened a pack. "What are you doing Ed?" Ed took out some smelling salts, trying to place it under her nose. Alex backed away, protecting her nose against the strong smell. Ed then placed it under Mitch's nose. The strong odor forced him come to. Alex made Ed get out of the way once she saw that Mitch was stirring. She asked Mitch was he all right. Mitch opened his eyes and asked if he was dead. Ed told him no, and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. Mitch grabbed it angily. Alex tried to restrain him as he tried to get up to go after a fleeting Ed Stymes. He kept growling that he was going to kill him. Alex wouldn't let him up and told him to lay back and relax. Mitch then asked if he was smoking.

After a shaky Mitch tried puring coffee from a thermos into a cup-top, Alex sat beside him. She placed a blanket around him. She told him that he was rattling. Mitch told her that she would rattle too if sombody shot her up with 20,000 volts!
Alex frowned. "You're still rattling." Mitch paused for a couple of seconds. He then pulled out a very flat, tin mints container and passed it over to Alex. He offered her a mint because he didn't have any breath left. She popped one into her mouth and asked Mitch what he thought about his friend Ed now? Mitch asked her not to rub it in. Alex asked him what he was going to do about him. Mitch suddenly smiled devilishly, displaying a plotful expression.

Well, a word here! Mitch plotted and used Ed as his instrument against an unsuspecting Alex. And he enjoyed it immensely! Now that the plot backfired and he ended up as the rescue victim...thanks to Ed, Mitch wanted to plot against him. Mitch should have known better! He knew what Ed was before he used him, and got what he deserved. Besides, after not going to the hospital to get checked out was a bit much, wasn't it? After something serious like that, it is supposed to be REQUIRED as in P-R-O-C-E-D-U-R-E.

The sirenwent on while the Call Car made its run down the beach. Mitch and Alex saw Ed walking. Thinking that they are going to run him over or do him bodily harm, he ran. They pursued him and ordered him to to halt over the speaker. Ed does stop and apologized as Mitch and Alex got out of the Call Car. Seeing his panicked state, Mitch tried to calm Ed down and told him that accidents do happen. Relieved, Ed asked him if they were still friends. Mitch agreed and they shook hands. Mitch told him that they wanted to see his products. They didn't want to see the small stuff. they wanted to see the top of the line. They were soon strapping him onto a "vacu-split-mattress" while he rattled on to describe the product. When Ed was all strapped in and unable to move, they left him there. The two got into the Call Car and took off. Ed screamed for them not to leave him there because the tide was coming in.

Meanwhile, Jessie was loading some towels intot he washer and measured the liquid detergent in it's cap before adding it to the load. J.D. greeted her coming into the locker room. After returning the greeting, she asked him if he could do her a HUGE favor. She left the bottle of opened detergent sitting on the washer. She told him that Billy Ness had just called. He saw her stunt reel and wanted her to meet him at his office. She was supposed to meet him in half an hour. J.D. Told her that she needed to get going. Jessie told J.D. that she promised to get the towels done before she left and if he'd mind putting them in the dryer for her. J.D. agreed.

Jessie looked around and spotted more towels, adding them to the load. Unwittingly, she forgot that the bottle of opened detergent was still sitting on the washer near the opening. The bottle of liquid detergent went in with the towels. Jessie told J.D. that they would be done in half an hour. There would be no problem because she had already set the dryer. All he had to do was throw the towels in and hit the button. She looked at J.D. and thanked him. Jessie then kissed him on the cheek and rushed out to get to her appointment on time. J.D. grabbed his lifeguard polo shirt and left the locker room. A split second after leaving, the waher started to shake and rock. Suds suddenly flowed up through tthe lid, and started to flood over the washer and onto the floor. Bridget and Sheryl rounded the corner. They saw the suds pushing their way from under the closed locker room door. They were stunned.

The Call Car pulled up to Headquarters. Alex and Mitch got out. Alex told Mitch that she loved giving it to the little weasel. Mitch wondered how long they should leave him out there. Alex asked him when was high tide? Mitch told her that it was midnight. Bridget approached them and told them what they would not believe. She procedded to lead them to the locker room.
"What? What is...?" Mitch's words trailed when he saw the suds. "The...big deal." After walking throught the suds, which were now extremely high and filling the room, Mitch looked at Alex. "We've got to talk about this girl...very soon."
"Yeah," said a disappointed Alex.

In the office, Alex breaks the news to jessie. The girl was in tears and swore to Alex that it would never happen again. She begged Alex not to fire her. If only she could talk to Mitch. Alex just explained that it wasn't anything against her personally, she just felt that Jessie wasn't cut out for that type of work. Jessie just broke down and cried while sitting on the arm of the sofa. Alex reached for the box of tissue and plucked one out to offer Jessie. Jessie whiled that it was the worse day of her life.
"Nooo," Alex cooed. "You're gonna be O.K. Jessie. I just wish there was something else I could do." With her head down, Jessie said, "I'll be O.K. It'll just be a second." She dried her tears. Jessie regained her composure. She then told Alex that she was O.K.
"I'm really sorry that it didn't work out." Alex said.
"Me too." Jessie said. She stood and then took an over-exaggerated deep breath. Alex extended her hand for Jessie to shake, wishing her luck. She noticed the scratches and bruises on the girl's arms. She tried holding onto them, but Jessie pulled them away. She asked Jessie how she got them. Jessie just explained that she always got scraped and bruised. It was no big deal. She had to run, but told Alex that she was really sorry that she let her down. Alex wore a suspicious expression while watching her leave.

J.D., Cody and Mitch made their way up the Headquarters stairs. J.D. commented that whoever was making those rescues sure knew what they were doing. Mitch said that there weren't too many lifeguards past or present that would avoid credit. Just then, Alex who had been listening made her way toward them. "What about future?" She asked.
"Future what?" Asked Mitch, a bit baffled.
"Future lifeguard." Alex said.
"What are you saying?" Asked Mitch. Alex told them that she knew who the phantom lifeguard was-it was Jessie. "Jessie!" they all chorused. Alex explained further that she had the same scratches on her arms as the littl girl that fell of the jetty. Mitch dismissed her assumption by stating that she could have gotten those scratches anywhere. Alex told them to think about when the first anonymous rescue took place. "The day Jessie got here," J.D. said.
"Early in morning before she headed to work. I'm telling you guys, it's Jessie." Alex said before continuing. "She may not be much with a mop, but she is the best prospect for a lifeguard that I have ever seen."

Meanwhile ont he beach, two drinking college teenagers buried another chest-high in the sand. One of them wrote the name of their fraternity on his forhead. the boy wanted to be accepted as a fraternity brother. the two barked out orders at him. they soon grabbed their surfboards and planned to surf, while leaving him there as a part of the innitiation. Before they got to the shoreline, the buried boy Sean (Kerr Smith), asked the others about the tide that was coming in. They told him that it should be about a half hour. They were soon at the shoreline discussing the waves until the buried one started to sink. "Fellas, I'm sinking here!" He said in a panic. One of them told him to shut up, while the other teased him with "Yeah, yeah! I'm sinking!"

More sand sank around him in a huge cove-like circle. He told them that he wasn't kidding, that he was sinking. He started cying for help! The two boys turned to see that he was indeed sinking and quickly ran over. The sunken in area was now much too vast to reach him. As one of the boys tried to go right out to him. "Watch it! Watch it! Stay back! Stay back!" The other one yelled. They ran over to grab one of their beach towels to see if they could fling the other end out for him to grab. The first attempt was a bit short. Sean told them that he couldn't reach it. To throw it again! Sean kept crying that he was going down, but somehow managed to grab it on the next attempt. He told the other boys that he had it and for them to pull. He tried to hold onto the towel, but he was buried to deep in the sand and lost his grip.

Jessie was passing by on the bike path above and saw what was going on. The boy kept screaming for help. She saw another biker and sopeed him. Jessie asked him if he could get a lifeguard, to call 911...it was an emergency! He rode off to do as she had requested. Jessie then guided her bike down the hill and toward sandy beach. She got off her bike and dropped it, quickly made her way out toward the scene. Sean kept screaming for help. Jessie offered to help, but at first they just tired pushing her away as if she was nothing more thtn a fly. She saw them trying to use a towel to help Sean.

"That's not gonna work! Jessie cried. She then ran over to the boards that the boys dropped. She picked one up and hurried back. Putting it in place to be pushed out toward the victim, Jessie warned them to watch out. Jessie then climbed onto it, faced down on her tummy. "Grab my ankles! Push it out there! come on!" She ordered. When Jessie was able to reach Sean, she said, "I got you, O.K.?" She tried to calm him a bit as she held onto his hand. then she yelled out to the others, "Come on...pull! Pull!" They pulled frantically with no result. Realizing that it was not working, she reached into her pants pocket and pulled out her keys. "Here, take my keys! Go get my bike lock!" Jessie flung the keys back for him to get. After he questioned her why, Jessie screamed for him to just do it! He quickly went off to get it unlocking the chain that was inserted inside the clear blue hose-type tube.
"You're gonna be O.K." she assured Sean. "Hold on!" Knowing that his very life depended on it. "WHERE IS HE?" She screamed. He came back quickly with the bike lock. He asked her what she wanted him to do with it. Jessie told him to slip the tubing off the chain.
"Hang in there, Sean!" Encouraged the other boy while holding onto the board. She took the transparent hose and inserted it into Sean's mouth. "Put this in your mouth so you can breathe! Don't let go! Don't let go! Pull!"

Finally, the lifeguards came. Mitch got out of the Call Car. "Pull! You're gonna be O.K.!" She screamed. "Hurry guys! He's buried in this sea cove!"
Alex asked if he was still alive. Jessie told her yes and that he was breathing through the tube. Mitch told J.D. to get the paddleboard and for Cody to hook up the winch.
"Hurry!" Jessie yelled. "Hang on...you're gonna be O.K." Mitch climbed onto the paddleboard to be extended out with the loop onto a line. Mitch told them that he needed more slack. Cody and Alex pulled off more line. Mitch then reached under the sand to get the boy's wrist and slide it over over one of of his hands. He needed some more line. Mitch yelled for more slack. His arm carried him up to his shoulder into the cove.
"More slack," J.D. relayed to Cody and Alex. The two pulled off more line. Mitch finally was able to get it over his wrist. Mitch was then pulled up. Mitch told Alex to take it up.
"He's comin'! Hold on man!" Jessie yelled. "Hold on!"

As the winch pulled Sean up, Jessie helped him toward her. They all then joined in to help him up out of the cove. Mitch held onto him and told him to take slow breaths. Jessie asked him if he was all right. "Yeah," said Sean trying to catch his breath.
"Get him some water, huh?" Mitch asked. "Good job!"
"Thank you guys so much!" Sean said gratefully, still trying to catch his breath.

This was the best scene in the Jessie storyline. the scene was very good. It certainly kept your interest!  I thought that Brooke over-acted here quite a bit, but hopefully she will get better as she practices her craft. Kerr Smith was great as the victim and did seem scared as he was going down into the cove. I liked the way the fraternity boys did make every effort to rescue Sean instead of just selfishly giving up or running out on him. And the gratefulness that Sean showed after he was rescued, trying to catch his breath.

After Sean was taken to the hospital to be checked out, Mitch and Alex confronted Jessie. Mitch asked her why she disappeared after making all of those rescues. She told them that she didn't want anybody to make a big deal of it! She didn't like a lot of attention and was more of a background girl. Alex told her that it was a good quality to have for a stuntwoman. Jessie agreed, but told them that it was on hold for a little while. The stunt co-ordinator she met with came on to her. that was not how she wanted to break into the "biz." Mitch told Jessie that Rookie School would start next week. She'd be a terrific candidate. She asked Mitch if he really thought that she could be a lifeguard. Mitch told her that she was a natural. Jessie told him that she would give it a shot.

Just then, Ed showed up shuffling toward them in slow steps trapped upright in the mattress. He whined on how he was a desperate man.
"Oh no-it can't be!" Alex said in disappointment. Ed continued to rattle on about how he tried to walk down to Santa Monica but fell down about eighteen times. Some little kid tripped him. How you couldn't make a phone call inside one of those things-he couldn't get any change. The good news was that they could float. The tide could have taken him to Japan. He then paused for a second before going on to show his disappointment. He said that he didn't think that it was funny at all. this wasn't his idea of a joke. The others just ignored him. Mitch asked Alex if she would like a cup of coffee. Alex told him that she would rather have a cappuccino.
"Cappuccino?" Asked Mitch.
"Cappuccino!" Said Alex.
"Cappuccino!" Said jessie.
"Wait a minute!" Ed yelled, while hopping after them. "Don't leave me! Don't leave me again! Hey! Hey! I want a cappuccino too! Decaffe...caffeine drives me crazy!" He kept yelling while continuing to hop after them. The three ran toward the Call Car!

This was the first enjoyable episode of the season. Hopefully, it will be the start of better stories. If not, I guess the writers, not able to come up with new plots anyway, could echo J.D. with those famous words of the Scarecrow, "I won't try to manage things because I can't think!" Duhhhhhh...Duhhhhhh! Just kidding!  My Score: 3 Rescue Cans
