Reason For Becoming A Lifeguard: Needed to find self-worth through a fulfilling job. To get from under his father's controlling thumb. He wanted to make his own living without his parents money.

Matt found that lifeguarding was for him. He found great friends and and relationships. With hard work and dedication, he became one of Baywatch's best lifeguards.
Hobbies/Interests: Surfing; Swimming; Water Sports
Sex & Moral Standards: Sexually active within the content of a serious, meaningful relationship. Has grown to be romantic than sensual.
Personal Premise: Giving less than your best isn't good enough. Be happy with what you do for a living.
Ambition: It was to stay at Baywatch and advance throught the ranks and help people.
Frustrations & Chief Disappointments: Neely's framing him for sexual harrassment. Neely came to Baywatch from another beach. She shared a tower with Matt and tried to make advances. Matt told her at point blank that he was dating someone and didn't want to mess the relationship up. This disappointed Neely. Someone she couldn't have.

Neely hung out with her biker pals and drank heavily. When Matt was patrolling the beach and she was watching the beach in the tower, a child needed help. Matt quickly went to her aid and Neely was nowhere in sight. She knew what was going on, but scrunched down in the tower to drink. Matt had the girl out of the water and was already starting CPR when Neely had finally been satisfied with the amount of liquor consumed. Unfortunately, alcohol carries a powerful smell of its own. Neely had been giving the girl mouth-to-mouth. Matt told her to switch positions. He could really taste and smell the stuff on the girl when he was doing the mouth-to-mouth. The girl came to and when it was all over, he confronted Neely. Neely asked if he was going to tell on her. Matt knew what he was going to do and said nothing.

Neely had a plan of her own. She had filed false sexual harrassment charges. She put on a great show and it resulted in Matt's suspension until Mitch and C.J. could clear his name. The important thing was that Mitch and C.J. believed him and not Neely.

They got their chance at a beach eatery that served beer. C.J. and Matt had a little scene that ended bitterly with C.J. slapping him. He left. C.J. sat down broken hearted. This was Neely's chance to get a witness to side with her against Matt and Baywatch. She bought to beers and tried to con a weeping C.J. Neely was told that Matt had cheated on her with three women. Neely unwittingly tried to get her to join her in a harrassment suit. But C.J. told her that he didn't commit sexual harrassment against her. Neely admitted that he didn't sexually harrass her either, but it didn't matter. Once she said that, C.J. put down the beer and said that she was done. She pulled out the small tape recorder and said, "so are you." Neely knew that she had blown it. Neely was fired.

The fact that Matt could not shake off Neely's ruining his career and reputation. She came back to Baywatch with a new lawsuit. The tape that Baywatch used against her was claimed as illegal. If she could come back to Baywatch, she would drop the suit. The upper management gave in and Neely was able to come back. Unfortunately, Matt left. He could not work with her after what she had done and did not trust her. Leaving C.J. behind was a huge regret, but he could not work with Neely.

Summer's going away to college and breaking off their relationship. She left Baywatch for her education and said goodbye to Matt.

Dating Summer behind his best pal Jimmy Slade's back. Slade had gone on a surfing competition tour and during absence, the two started dating. Summer had not broken up with Slade. She had not given his mother's ring back-the ring she accepted for when he had found the right girl. Not even a "Dear John" letter. The time came when Slade returned to find out what had been going on while he was away. It resulted in a fight over Summer. But later, Matt and Jimmy made up. Reason finally kicked in. He realized that Summer wanted Matt, not him. Jimmy Slade left Baywatch and Summer behind for good.

His not getting along with his father. They always were in disagreement because Matt would not do as his father wanted. He followed his own path despite his father's trying to use money as a weapon.
Temperament: Pleasant and happy. Comfortable with his life and what he does for a living. Not afraid to show tears when he is deeply hurt.
Attitude Toward Life: Follow your own path.
Complexes: His reputation ruined from Neely's lies. He could never completely shake the scandal that Neely had conjured up. Especially when she showed to work at Baywatch once more.

His leaving devoted girlfriend C.J. behind. She wanted him to stay at Baywatch so that they could work things out and to restore his reputation. But he went back to France with his parents.

Summer leaving Baywatch for college. He knew that she had college plans and was going to leave eventually. Their breakup hurt.

Dating Summer behind Slade's back. A HUGE mistake. You just don't date a friend's love because it's a sure way to turn a devoted friend into a deadly enemy. It proved to be a complicated matter that had them fighting over Summer for a while. Matt was extremely lucky that he didn't lose Slade as a friend. With Slade, reason won outright. Although they made up and worked things out, Slade left Baywatch for good.
Extrovert/Introvert: Extrovert; loves and cares about people. Loves attention.
Abilities: Well trained as a lifeguard. A hard worker who is very observant and dedicated to duty. Has no tolerance for lawbreakers. Will not lie or cover up for someone who is breaking the law.
Qualities: Athletic; charming; dedicated; dependable; fighter; fun-loving; hard-working; helpful; listener; loving; loyal; observant; patient; protective; reasonable; responsible; sensitive; serious; sexy; sporty; strong; stubborn; supportive; sweet; tenacious; thinker; understanding; warm.
