MICHAEL BERGIN'S BOOK COMES UNDER FIRE
Claims Affair With Carolyn Bessette While She Was Married To John F. Kennedy Jr.
Michael Bergin's new book, "The Other Man: A Love Story,"/Regan Books
came under fire in defense of longtime friend Carolyn Bessette and husband John F. Kennedy Jr. when he claimed an affair with
her less than a year after she was married. He also interviewed on the A&E Network concerning the claimed affair.
He said the affair began in Los Angeles in 1997, when she spent 11 days with him while her husband was off on a kayaking trip
with friends.
The couple was killed in 1999, along with Carolyn's sister in a tragic plane crash off the coast
of Martha's Vineyard. Kennedy was the pilot of the private plane and the three were on their way to a wedding. The foggy weather
took its toll. Michael was living in Hawaii filming Baywatch Hawaii during that time.
Many sources said that the affair was impossible because there were too many holes in
his story. Among them was Michael's former manager, Clifford Streit. After reading the book, Streit told the press
that he and Michael often discussed Carolyn and that he didn't believe he slept with Carolyn after she was married to John
F. Kennedy Jr. Others agreed with him.
Carolyn was always hunted by the press and stated they would have noticed his living with him and it
would have been major news. The alleged two abortions and one miscarriage while dating both he and John were in
question because a close female friend stated that she always used birth control.
Another incident was when when it was said that he called her at work while she was at Calvin Klein
after her engagement, but around the stated time of his call, she had already quit Calvin.
The New York Post had hyped this book as "the most explosive book of the year."
