Music was what he talked about, but was expected to follow in his father's footsteps to earn a college degree and
be a lifeguard. Mitch was stern concerning the college education, but would not force him to a career as a lifeguard. Hobie went
through all of the moves to please him. He went through college while working part-time as a lifeguard. He took
the courses that his father suggested (as in: wanted him to). After his graduation, he followed through to
please his proud doting dad. Given the truth, he loved his father and really did not want to disappoint him. He loved
lifeguarding, but at that time he was only thinking about a music career.
His father was pleased when he went through Rookie School and made the cut. He then won the Rookie
of the Year title as his father had, but chose Zuma Beach as his beach assignment. Mitch was disappointed. It
hurt him to see the pain in his father's eyes. Hobie thought that it was best, as he was the Captain's son and did not want
favortism. His father was also a Living Legend and he needed to get from under his shadow. He needed to prove himself
on his own merit. His dad still tried to control and hold on to him. Hobie ended up back at Baywatch Headquarters
in the end. Hobie finally adjusted and decided that he had no problem working with his father.
His first day on the job-Memorial Day. Some of his old surfing buddies somehow just happened to venture all
the way out to Zuma Beach. These boys usually did their surfing, beaching and playing at the Baywatch
location. It was obvious that they came out to start trouble and see what they could get away with. They
kept breaking rules to upstage him. Hobie was forced to pull rank and a fight was the end result. He hadn't called for
back-up.
Mitch, who kept tabs on his performance was suddenly there when he closed up his tower for the day. Hobie asked
if he would have come all the way out to Zuma for another lifeguard and Mitch admitted that he would not have. He
would have let the Lt. handle his own beach. It was hard for him to ask his father to let the Lt. handle the
incident. It was hard enough being the Captain's son. He wasn't his little boy anymore. That hurt and Mitch didn't try to
hide it either.
Stephanie Holden's death. He and Mitch both had super-close relationships with Stephanie. It tore him apart and
took some time to realize that she was truely gone.
Residence: He shares a home with dad. They are close and has no problem with his father as
a housemate.
Marital Status: Single, but is now dating...(sharkey's note:

that everyone has seen Hobie grow up on screen while Summer was dating the likes of Slade and Matt during this time.

Parents: Mother/Gayle (whom he still
visits on a schedule as he did when he was a child to stay close)/Mitch Buchannon, whom he had chosen to live with as

Reason For Becoming A Lifeguard: His father was a lifeguard. And while growing up, he thought what his
father did was so cool that he often bragged about it. He entered the Junior Lifeguard program. He loved being a
junior lifeguard. Hobie was always at Headquarters and the beach where his father (and the other lifeguards) kept a watchful,
protective eye on him. It prepared him for his future as a lifeguard.

Ambition:
To be an excellent lifeguard and follow in his father's footsteps to make a difference. Keep the relationship
with his father close.
Frustrations & Chief Disappointments: He and everyone else getting
taken in by a Stephanie Holden clone. It was the untrusted Neely Capshaw who proved that she was indeed a great friend here.
She came through when needed. Neely was the only one who didn't fall for the act. She
knew that something was fake about her. Neely's other motive was that she was incredibly jealous and still in love with
Mitch. She did not like the idea of Mitch falling in love with someone else and marrying her in Hawaii.
Not believing Neely's confirmed facts and warnings concerning Allison, Mitch soon found out for himself that Allison was involved
with an old enemy-Mason Sato, who had planned revenge. Hobie immediately remembered Mason Sato from his childhood when
he and Kay Morgan were held captive to trap his father.
The battle over his going to college. That battle over his career and his
future. In the beginning he went to college just to please Mitch. He wanted to skip college. After graduation,
he realized how his education was an important component in shaping his future.
When he chose to work at Zuma Beach instead of at Baywatch
Headquarters to prove himself as a lifeguard without favoritism. It was extremely painful when he had to tell his
father that he wasn't "his little boy anymore" when he traveled all the way out to Zuma Beach concerning
trouble he had on the beach that day. It had been his first day on duty. But his father being the Captain, Hobie was
assigned where Mitch wanted him anyway. His son ended up assigned at Baywatch Headquarters most of the time.
His own grandfather died from a rare cancer. Grandmother was diagnosed
with Alzheimer's Disease. His parents breakup. Although was well-adjusted as a child, he somehow still wished
that they were still together as a traditional family. When Australian lifeguard Tracy died from cancer. He
was close to her and his father was devastated. It took Mitch a long time to get over it. He wanted to ease his father's
pain.
His father's marrying Neely only to later find out that she had "tricked"
him into marrying her. After their separation when Neely tried to discredit Mitch and ruin his reputation. She
seemed bent on destroying him for breaking off the marriage leaving her with no husband or a father for her baby daughter
Ashley. She is still there! She just will not go away!
