FIGHTING VIDEO VOYEURISM
Pushing Congress for Rights to Privacy
Angie Harmon is lobbying Congress to pass stricter anti-peeping laws. Angie recently portrayed
Susan Wilson in the Video Voyeur: Susan Wilson Story. It was based on a true story. Angie portrayed Susan Wilson,
a woman who with her family had moved into what seemed to be their dream home in a nice Louisiana community.
The family's trusted neighbor, Steve Glover installed video cameras in their home without their knowledge.
He was able to tape and view everything the family did, with no regard for privacy. Mild mannered Susan fought back
when she found that laws didn't support this kind of stalking, pushing for basic rights to privacy.
And Angie was surprised to find that the laws must be changed to protect citizens basic rights. Everyone
has a right to privacy. She has stated that technology has made it much easier for anyone with nafarious intentions to do
this. Any material can now end up on the internet or used to make money.
While appearing on The Tonight Show on March 13, 2000, Angie's
then boyfriend, football's NEW YORK GIANTS player Jason Sehorn surprised her by coming out on stage, getting down on
one knee and proposing. Jay Leno and The Tonight Show staff were in on the plan. Jay had
asked Angie if she was dating anyone special and the reply was that she didn't discuss her personal life in public. She tearfully
accepted the proposal on national television. Her father also made an appearance to give his blessing. And Elton John,
who was also a guest that day, sang a song from his new CD, The Road to El Dorado in honor of the newly engaged couple.
Angie and Jason had been introduced by Jason Sehorns' mother when Angie was attending a NEW YORK GIANTS football
game.

I caught this interesting and touching segment of The Tonight Show
on the encore. Angie, who seems incredibly different from the role that she portrays on NBC's Law & Order, showed
another emotion that is never displayed to TV viewers. Angie Harmon was recently a guest on Jay Leno's Tonight Show.
Veteran rocker Elton John also appeared on the same segment.
Angie appeared as a giddy guest talking about the stars she had met at an
awards ceremony for which she and her Law & Order co-stars were nominated as a group. She also mentioned that
the last time she appeared on Jay's show, Ricky Martin appeared as well. And now Elton John was on this segment.
At the ceremony, she got to meet screen legend Sidney Poitier. Angie told him how she was
such a big fan of his-the movies he made and his outstanding career. She was surprised when he told her that he was a big
fan of hers too!
Jay then asked Angie about her rescuing a cow. She told him that it
had fallen and its legs were in the air. If they can't get up after about 10 minutes, they just give up. Jay asked her if
she gave it mouth-to-mouth. She laughed at the Baywatch humor. So, she was one of the people to get it out of
the wire and up on its feet. The cow just looked at her and left.
Jay asked her about her love life-if she was dating. Angie stated that she
was dating but din't want to talk about her private life. Jay told her what if he came out. Angie stated that he
wouldn't do that. Realizing that Elton John was sitting next to her, Angie and Jay made it plain that they were not talking
about that "coming out."
Just then, Jay got her boyfriend to come out on stage to Angie's surprise.
It was Jason Seahorn of the NEW YORK GIANTS! When he got down on one knee, Angie asked what was going on-until he
proposed with the ring and all right on national TV! For the couple, the audience just seemed to disappear. She was all tears
as Jason placed the ring on her finger. Angie then nodded quickly because she was totally speechless.
Still in a tearful daze, she kept hugging her new fiance and then Jay. And
then Jay told Jason that he needed to ask her dad's blessing. He had Larry Harmon come out to voice his approval of the relationship.
Angie then embraced her dad, still speechlessly in tears.
Elton John finished the show with a song from his new CD, The Road to
El Dorado. What a way to finish a talk show segment!
