Humanitarian
  1. His tireless work for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) enables others the opportunity to go to college.
   2. A series of concerts for American military personnel on bases around the world.
 
Charity Work
  1. Corporate spokesman for Amheuser Busch, the world's leading brewery. In 1980, this lead to the company's sponsorship for two events which still continues today.
  2. A telethon which raises now more than $200 million. The proceeds are donated to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
          -An Evening of Stars; Now Celebrates its 25th Anniversary January 2004.  
  3. Sponsors a celebrity golf tournament to raise money for UNCF.

          -Before a microphone singing the WGN Chicago song, "Welcome Home." You could hear his singing throughout as WGN's short clips of shows, movies and sports programs were shown.

          -In a nightclub singing the song, "When you say Budwiser, you've said it all."
 
Radio
  1. Black Radio: Telling It Like It Was
          -Hosted a series of documentaries that recounted the untold story of radio's role in the 20th century transformation of the Black community. Through interviews, historical air checks, comedy, drama and music, the series revealed the remarkable correlation between milestones of Black-orientated radio programming and Black culture. The 13-part series began airing on Public radio International (PRI) affiliate radio stations in January 1996.

Honors
  1. Tribute to Lou Rawls
          -An Evening of Stars 25th Anniversary; The United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
          -The 4-hour broadcast aired in nearly 70 stations across the country; Some of the biggest names in Hollywood appeared as entertainers and presenters.       
  2. The first Black astronaut in space, Lt. Col. Guion Bluford took Lou's album which contained his hit song, "Wind Beneath My Wings" with him on a 1983 Shuttle voyage. How much higher can a song get?
  3. Accompished the amazing feat of having five albums on the charts at the same time.
  4. Has become one of the few artists to earn Grammy nominations for Pop, Jazz, R&B and Children's.
  5. Was praised by legend Frank Sinatra for having "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game" after beating him out in Downbeat magazine's fave 1971 for favorite male vocalist.
