CARMEN ELECTRA WINS WEBSITE WAR!
Wins Control Over Internet Site Bearing Her Name
In a ruling by a United Nations panel,
Carmen Electra won control of of
www.carmenelectra.com. An arbitrator for the
World Intellectual Property Organization ordered the transfer of the domain name to Carmen.
She had discovered and complained that the site was being used to transfer traffic to a commercial site called
Celebrity1000.
The company registering that name is
Network Operations Center of
High Prairie, Canada. The site contains
advertisements that makes it looks as though the site is affiliated with her.
This is not new with Network Operations Center (aka: Alberta Hot Rods controlled by Jeff Burgar),
as a number of celebrities have won the Internet version of their names back from them. The U.N. arbitration system allows
those who believe they have the right to a domain to get it back without having to fight a costly legal battle or pay large
sums of money.
